The biggest change I made was that, following advice from this sub, immediately after receiving a paycheck I would "pay myself". I'd take a look at my balance and transfer roughly 60% of my income into savings. What I had left over was my liquid finances - the stuff that I needed for expenses and a few miscellaneous purchases along the way. It felt good to finally save money, "for real" this time.
