You may be unable to save now due to the pandemic. It’s has affected all of us in different ways. My husband has been able to continue working. He works in food service, which is one of the industries that didn’t take as big of a hit since they were able to still operate through take out. His full hours still have not resumed.

I eat beans and rice. I get a 20lb bag of rice at Walmart, beans of my choosing…I prefer red and black beans….and then I also get $1 great value onion and garlic powder, knorr chicken bouillon cubes, onion, celery, and bell pepper. You can opt for the $8 20lb bag of great value long grain rice or the $18 20lb bag of basmati….I go with basmati. It is $10 more expensive, but it smells like popcorn when cooking and tastes so good. The rice will last you all month long for two people. I cook down my onion, bell pepper, and celery(about 1 cup of each chopped up)…..fill up my pot with water…add one bouillon cube per 2 cups of water, plus a little more salt as needed….season with 2 tablespoons each of garlic and onion powder….and omg, it is so good. So flavorful. A low bubbling simmer for about 2 hours, adding water as needed so it doesn’t burn, and you’ve got yourself a very cheap meal. This pot of beans should last you about 4-5 days for one person….and most of your calories will come from the rice. A bag of 1lb beans only has 1300-1400 calories…so yeah, the rice is your foundation for sure. 1 cup dry rice has 650 calories. 2 cups a day with your beans is sufficient.

Try to find places in town that can offer you free toiletries. Not sure what the weather is like, but if it’s hot, then take off your clothes or wear very little and turn the AC to a more efficient temperature setting…if it’s cold, bundle up and swear against running the heater.

Are you still getting unemployment benefits or have those been exhausted? Have you been able to resume work hours at all?

There is a ton of money to be made in the sex phone operator industry. I don’t do it anymore as it was depressing. So many men calling in for the most disgusting taboos that I had to just sit and go along with. It is always on the table for me if things get too bad. You can make bookoo cash with that.

Only way to save is not be ready for a pandemic like COVID 19 business and stores should have a pandemic plan made.

I loved the food advice from Falon! Other ways we can all save money:

  1. Cooking at home (better than going out)
  2. Finding free home workouts on YouTube. Cancel the gym membership.
  3. Getting books, movies, & TV shows from the local library. Cancel cable & streaming services. My library's free app is called Hoopla. My hometown library's free app is Libby. Check if your library has one of those.
  4. Getting free meals. Feeding America and local food pantries are generous.
  5. Volunteering. This helps us socialize with the right people and gain skills during the pandemic.
