I received European citizenship by distant descent, and now have access to free health care if I need it.

Awesome. My brother-in-law tried to get citizenship by descent but the ancestor left the old country a couple of years too early for him to qualify.

I had to google the meaning of “jus sanguinis.”

America should be like the European Union it’s scary to think that the politicians in office right now are trying to rid the affordable care act we are helpless against these power hungry politicians that have no sympathy or concern for their citizens

How does this work?

Wow, I did not even know citizenship by distant descent was an option. Congrats! That's a great option for healthcare…I wonder how close to the family member you have to be? Does being a first cousin count?

My cousins have UK citizenship because their father was born there. Now they are both living in Ireland 🇮🇪. Through some research I found that that you can obtain distant descent citizenship resulting from the nationality of your father, mother, or grandparents. Most countries go back only one generation, meaning at least one of your parents must be from the country in question to be eligible for citizenship. But in a few countries, grandchildren can qualify. https://internationalliving.com/your-right-to-a-second-passport-through-family-ties-trl/

My FIL was from Hungary. My husband doesn't need it, but I'm definitely going to see if my kids could get citizenship. Thanks for the tip!
