There is no short cut to building credit fast! What I do is pay my monthly bills with my credit cards, shuffle your money around and ge tthe credit cards paid off totally before allowing interest to incur.
Write a letter to the 3 credit bureaus asking them to add your utility bills to your credit report becaus eof course you are paying thme on time. Start somewhere today:)

I'm working on my credit, but it's hard. Because you have to pay people money to fix your credit. I just don't have it

Yes you have to pay companies to fix your credit which in my head is taking away from me paying a Bill.

The only credit reporting agency that will add your utility bill is Experian. The have something called credit boost to recognize your utility bills and include them in the final score.

As you say there's no true quick fix to building credit but you sure can wreck it quick! So if you're in a rebuilding stage be careful how much you put on a credit card. And it would be wise to have as much in savings as you budget for spending so you can pay it off quick if needed.

That said, I recently got an email from Pep Boys stating I could put my auto insurance payments on their card for up to 6 months interest free! As I tend to pay annually for auto I can put that money into savings and just pay the min due for 5 months and then pay it off and have earned savings interest too!

Another thought is for casual spending use a prepaid, fee free debit card. Just like cash when it's gone, it's gone so you're forced to stick to the budget. Don't be tricked into overspending just because of credit reward perks!

The key is borrowing money and paying it back consistently as well as with credit cards.

What is this about writing the credit bureaus to add utilities? Which utilities? How does this work? Never heard of this. Thanks in advance.

I read somewhere that a great way to build your child's credit is to add them as an authorized user on one of your credit cards then make sure to keep that CC in good standing and it they will piggyback on your good credit (for that card). I just added my son who recently joined the military on one of my CC that I use for gas and food and pay off every month. I am hoping this works and that by the time he's ready to buy a car or house, he's got some positive credit history to boost his rating. If anybody else has some good tips for helping to build your child's credit, please share! I just don't want my children to make the same mistakes I did when it came to building credit.

I checked my 3 credit report and asked them to remove any false information and to correct any wrong information. This was the beginning of seeing improvement in my credit score.

There is no quick way to build credit. But check out Credit Karma for ways to build credit and what makes up your score.

I started out by taking out a secured credit card with Capital One with just $300. Make sure they report to the credit bureaus otherwise it'll be pointless. I made sure I paid at least the minimum payment each month on time if I'm not able to pay off the balance owed in full. Within 6 months my credit score had improved by at least 100 points. Then from there because of my excellent payment history I was able to acquire a regular credit card. It wasn't a huge credit limit but my goal was to improve my credit score & besides I wasn't too eager to have a huge credit limit because I didn't want to be tempted & then place myself in danger of start missing payments or be late on payments which hugely affects your score. So that's what's been working for me. In 2yrs I went from having a poor score to ranging in the 730's which is pretty good. I'm very proud of myself. Hope this helps someone.
