I use my credit card like a debit card. They're both linked to the same bank so I can see the balance in my checking account, and instead of using the debit card associated with that account I just use my credit card. If there's not enough in my checking account then I know I can't buy anything!

@Derek - that's really smart!

and always fight temptation to get a snack at the gas station. I think my major issue w/spending is impulsive small purchases… And then I pay more than the minimum but less than the balance statement

I rarely use my debit card anymore. I use my credit card in most my purchases, but I treat as if it is a debit card.

Yes, secured credit cards are the way to go. I have a Disover and Capital One and they are helping me increase my credit score.

When I am forced to use cash or my debit card and I don’t have a sale item, can’t get cashback, nor have a coupon - I use Qapital.

I'm saving money faster with Qapital. Sign up and use my code x245m26v or my link and we'll both get $5!

I use my credit cards in lieu of my debit cards. I use credit cards for the cash back rewards and I pay off the balance every month. I get 5% cash back on gasoline and 3% cash back at grocery stores. I also get at least 1% cash back on everything else.

Elena which card do you have? Capital 1 gives 1.5 percent back if I am not mistaken. 5 and 3 percent are good options. I would use my card more if they offered that.

I love credit card rewards. I always pay my credit card balance in full every month.

I use two cards. Sam's Club MasterCard offers 5% cash back on gas, 3% on dining and travel, and 1% all other eligible purchases. American Express Blue Cash Everyday offers 3% cash back at grocery stores, 2% at gas stations and department stores, and 1% on other eligible purchases.

It's good for me to read others experience with using cred cards. Since I've been paying off debt I haven't wanted to use any credit cards. Now that my debt is getting played down and I'm saving money and feel more confident, I'm going to start looking for cards to get money back. Thanks to all.

@Latasha B. The Amex Blue Cash Everyday card has no annual fee.

Elena does the amex card have an annual fee?

No, the Blue Cash Everyday does not have an annual fee. It is the Blue Cash Preferred which has the annual fee. American Express has too many cards with similar names.

When I have to provide a credit card and don't want to chance problems later I use the Amex Bluebird from Walmart. This is slightly different than the Bluebird offered by others.

It's a prepaid card that can be funded from your bank account or at Walmart and has no loading fees like Visa & Mastercard prepays do.

I use a credit card for all regular expenses for the cash back rewards, and always pay off the balance. I actually have about 10 cards that I applied for due to sign up bonuses.

I only use a debit card to withdraw money and it's been years since I used it for a transaction. Credit card points are worth it
