I save 10% of my biweekly paycheck and any other bonus that I might get. Some in my savings account and some in my Roth IRA account.

I budget my money on paper. I try to not spend too much at the grocery store.

I use the YNAB app. It can be challenging to learn. But basically I have a list of all my upcoming bills. I determine what bills (and groceries, gas, etc) need to be paid with each paycheck. I then set aside $25-$50 each week towards fun money.. Anything leftover goes to savings.

I do a zero based budget based on my salary, doing fixed and variable expenses and any debt. Always, always pay yourself and do your charitable giving first. During the month I keep record of my spending and categorize it when I close out my budget at the end of the month. That's when I determine what I can do to lower my spending. If I have excess monies at the end of the month, those funds go into my emergency fund, even if its $1. You don't see results right away, but 3-6 months into this type of discipline you will see results and be proud of your accomplishments. Since I have started this process, I realize there are things I can live without, i.e. Starbucks every morning.
